Energy justice, Just Transitions and Scottish energy policy: A re-grounding of theory in policy practice

Now, more than ever, there is a pressing need to focus overtly on justice issues in energy affairs as part of the socio-technical reimagining futures. With reference and Just Transitions literatures - two popularised increasingly intertwined concepts this paper analyses how conceptualised policy practice through case study analysis policymaking Scotland. It does so by drawing upon 6 expert interviews 148 legislative government documents published between 2010 2020. Through lens study, makes three contributions. First, it responds appeals scholarship for practical applicability. Second, re-grounds these political economic realities within Scottish providing recommendations academia, wider contexts. Three, reveals rich empirical detail. Throughout analysis, four key thematic categories emerged, each articulating manifestation concerns policy: affordability fuel poverty, forms recognition, relation interests decision-making, Transition cross-cutting theme.
